Spring Beauty

As we are packing away our winter clothes and seeing neon and floral prints take over store fronts, it’s time to switch up your beauty routine for the spring season! These products are some of my personal favorites. Not only is the Nars Laguna bronzer one of the best I have used, but every time I pair it with the Illuminator I get compliments on how great my skin looks. Who doesn’t love that? Another favorite is Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray. The surf spray is a great way to shake up your typical wand-curls for a more deconstructed, casual look. Finally, freshen up your makeup routine with a much-talked-about BB cream- I suggest using Lumene. It is a true all-in-one cream which works as a brightening primer, light foundation, moisturizer, anti-aging cream, sunscreen, and concealer. How is that for bang for your buck? So, book an appointment with your favorite manicurist, spritz on some of your favorite floral perfume, and enjoy the spring sunshine! But don’t forget- “April’s showers bring May’s flowers,” so you may want to bring an umbrella, just in case ;)

Nail Trend: Crystallized Mani

If you know me well, I think that you would be hard pressed to recall a time when I did not have nail polish on. Something about bare nails just bugs me. Not saying it makes any sense- it just is. So, as I prepped my nails for a fresh coat of polish, I recalled a picture I had recently seen of the pyramid studded nails at Kate Spade. While pyramid studs are usually right up my alley, the Kate Spade look was going to require some supply shopping and would have to wait. BUT, I did have some Swarovski crystal appliques handily available from work! I opted to use Essie’s Sand Tropez polish and added just one crystal on each ring finger for a simple-but-fun everyday look. For more festive events, a crystal on each nail would look adorable and is definitely something I will keep in mind. To add a little dimension to your own manicure, try stopping by the scrapbooking section of Michael’s or a local craft store for some 3-D stickers, studs, and crystals.

Warming Up To Spring

With Spring just around the corner, it’s a great time to start pulling some Spring-y elements into your wardrobe. While the leather trend still going strong, and since a great pair of leather leggings go with just about anything, I couldn’t help but include them in this outfit. Now that I have it all put together, I am convinced that this Rag & Bone blazer needs to make it’s way into my closet asap.

Stylish Cuisine: Turkey Bacon & Egg Cups

Cooking may not have always been my forte, but after years of learning from Mom in the kitchen (and having to make up for my sister’s lack of cooking ability… sorry Cait), I have to say I am starting to impress myself. While looking for a way to put my turkey bacon to use for a family brunch, I stumbled upon this creative breakfast presentation and it was delicious. Admittedly, it looks more difficult than it really is, but that’s what makes it so great! Give it a try and let me know what you think :)

Turkey Bacon & Egg Cups

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 8 eggs
  • 8 slices of turkey bacon, uncooked
  • 1/4 cup (ish) shredded cheddar cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Lightly grease 8 muffin tin cups
  3. Wrap bacon slices around the inside of 8 muffin tin cups
  4. Crack one egg into the center of each cup
  5. Sprinkle some cheddar cheese on top of each cup
  6. Place in oven for approximately 15-18 minutes (depending on how efficient your oven is and how you like your eggs cooked)

Et voila! Serve with toast, fruit salad, and a mimosa for the perfect Sunday brunch!

Penciling In The New Year

First of all, Happy New Year to you all! I hope that your celebrations were full of friends, family, fun, and of course, champagne.

To ring in the new year, most people have a tradition that sets the tone for the 365 days to come. Maybe yours is eating 12 grapes at midnight, saying “rabbit, rabbit” as soon as your open your eyes on January 1st, or you could be like me and start your year with a new agenda. Call me old school, but post-grad life is busy and using my cellphone calendar just doesn’t seem to cut it. For 12 months of colorful, well-spaced organization, I turn to a Lilly Pulitzer agenda. Not only is it both functional and adorable, but it takes me back to my days at Florida State where a Lilly agenda was a North Face backpack staple. If you haven’t already invested your own agenda for 2013, I encourage you to do so and have included some helpful hints about where to look. When you start finding time to squeeze in the workouts that you always missed before, or start collecting brownie points for remembering birthdays without a Facebook reminder, you will thank me!

Black, White, and Grey All Over

I have always been a fan of the black, white, and grey color scheme for the cooler months. More recently, I have found that throwing the right shade of blue into the mix creates a thoughtful and intriguing look. Yes, I said blue. The taboo on mixing dark blues and black is long over, opening up a whole new range of possibilities. However, I might point out that you don’t want your blues to be too navy- or else your creative outfit may be misinterpreted for one thrown together in the dark. The real key to a monochromatic look is texture. The following look combines the ever-popular leather, boucle, cotton, and embroidery, all in one seemingly effortless combination. The best part? With a little practice, putting together a monochromatic ensemble could be as effortlessly chic as it looks.

Boot-ilicious

While living in Miami may not allow for boots to be a significant part of my shoe wardrobe, it doesn’t mean that I don’t still love them! My newest pair was acquired after a wild, shoe-aholic induced goose chase for the last pair of over-the-knee olive leather Sam Edelmans in my size in the USA. While still in the honeymoon phase, I focused many of my packing decisions for a cold and rainy trip to Pennsylvania on these boots, and came to find just how versatile boots can be. Soon after that,  I was thrilled to see that Vogue published a “Boot Guide for Fall 2012″, thereby dismissing any buyer’s remorse I could have possibly had over the purchase. So, whether you dive in to the Fall boot trend with an over-the-knee style like I did, channel vintage with some Dolce-inspired embroidery, go classic with some fashionable fur, or are loving the laser-cut, don’t be afraid to try something different and make this season’s it-accessory a knock-out.

I was recently asked to participate in a Swarovski celebrity styling contest to provide fresh inspiration for the Learning & Development department. The task was to pick your favorite celebrity to accessorize for the red carpet using pieces from Swarovski’s new Fall/Winter collection. Rooney Mara instantly jumped to mind! I usually love her simple elegance, but a little bling can’t hurt- especially not these pieces! What do you think?

StyleWeek Resort

StyleWeek Resort has officially made its debut in Miami after launching its first show amongst the company of giants such as The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Not only has StyleWeek’s growth been remarkable during its brief 3 years of existence, but it is the only show of its kind supported by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) focusing on one important goal: the business of fashion. Featuring local designers and graduates of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the kickoff night boasted designers Hope Macdonald, Richard Petit, and Camille Jeanay. While each of the designers brought a great perspective to their collections and the evening, Hope Macdonald was a standout.

Hope’s ability to combine patterns (anyone who has attempted this knows how difficult it is), colors, and texture is reminiscent of old pros like Consuelo Castiglioni of Marni while maintaining her own fresh style. I can’t wait to see what else this young designer comes up with- she is definitely one to keep your eye on.

Welcome

Welcome friends and future followers to my newest endeavor: a fashion blog! After being born and raised in Miami and being surrounded by fashion all my life, I am not entirely surprised that my years of exposure have finally led to this!

I recently graduated from Florida State University (Go ‘Noles) and have found my love for finding vintage treasures, thrifted steals, and drawing inspiration from the pages of Vogue reinvigorated after my move back to the 305. After ditching the “college duds” and taking the extra few minutes to piece together outfits that not only made me look better but feel better, TessOhDee is where I will share my styling, bargain-hunting, beauty and DIY tips (after some trial-and-error). Being a Miami girl,  there is sure to be some exciting events and fiestas that will show up too ;)

Stay tuned for fashion with me, TessOhDee!
